Mindfulness: Why incorporate it into the routine of children?

For both adults and children with anxiety or sadder thoughts, mindfulness can be a very useful tool.

In recent years, the wellness landscape has changed for families. In the wake of the pandemic, increased stress and greater attention to our own health and happiness have pushed mindfulness practices to the top of our agendas. At last, mental health is being taken into account! According to a study conducted by Unicef in 2021, Spain is the European country with the most children and adolescents with mental health problems: 20.8% of Spaniards aged between 10 and 19 suffer from some kind of disorder.

Becoming aware of the present allows us to better understand the real world and our place in it. Not always what we think becomes real, but sometimes it makes an impact on us as if it were. Mindfulness frees your mind from fear and worry. Mindfulness practices benefit not only people under external stressors, but also those with diagnosed behavioral disorders, such as ADHD, and those who experience mood swings, sleep or concentration problems.

The key feature and why many people begin to incorporate the practice of Mindfulness in their daily lives is that it gives the person a better and greater management of emotions. That is, it helps to identify the emotion, accept it, cradle it and learn to manage it correctly. Thus, over time the person begins to be master of his emotions and that does not happen the opposite and unfortunately so common, that emotions come to overwhelm the child.

Although discovering what works for each child must be approached individually, the most common mindfulness practices include journaling, sound baths, meditation, and movement. Manifestation (i.e., making something a reality through the power of attraction and conviction) is one of the most popular techniques. Author and self-development coach Roxie Nafousi has made it the centerpiece of her work. Her most recent book, Manifest For Kidspublished a few months ago, aims to give children the tools they need to better understand their own feelings and build self-esteem.

Learning to manifest is like a new “superpower” and with it you will be able to understand and work with your emotions, rather than letting them overwhelm or define you. It will help them see the world through a more positive lens, which will ultimately change their perception (and therefore their experience) of the world. It’s a way to raise their awareness and work both for themselves and what they want to achieve.
